Compensation for family of mesothelioma sufferer

Oonagh’s client was negligently exposed to asbestos at work and went on to develop mesothelioma, a fatal asbestos-related disease, from which he sadly died soon after.

Although the client’s doctors were certain that he had died of mesothelioma, the insurance company defended the claim as no post mortem had been carried out. Oonagh used her experience and tough negotiating skills to recover significant compensation for the client’s widow.

Success with claim for asbestosis

After being diagnosed with pleural plaques, this client approached Oonagh to help him with a claim for compensation. However before his case was resolved the House of Lords in 2007 ruled that compensation was no longer available to pleural plaques sufferers.

Following the introduction of legislation in Northern Ireland in December 2011 Oonagh was able to reopen his case and obtain a payment for the client.

Perforated bowel during operation

Oonagh acted for a victim of medical negligence whose bowel had been perforated during a routine medical procedure.

As liability was denied, Oonagh had to issue proceedings but following negotiations, she managed to obtain compensation for her client.
